SPUMS has recently lost two much loved members of the Society. We would like to express our sincere condolences to family and friends of Dr Fiona Sharp and Dr Carl Edmonds.
Dr Fiona Sharp
Fiona passed away in a tragic diving accident at Bonaire in the Dutch Caribbean. She is being remembered across the globe as a bubbly and gregarious anaesthetist and diver.
"Fiona was a larger than life contributor to our organisation and scientific meetings. She leaves many friends behind and will be sadly missed."
David Smart, President of South Pacific Underwater Medicine Society
Dr Carl Wilfrid Edmonds OAM, LCDR RAN (Ret)

Dr Carl Edmonds, diving medicine pioneer, Foundation President of the South Pacific Underwater Medicine Society (SPUMS) and first Editor of the SPUMS Journal, passed away on Friday 01 November 2019, aged 83 years. He passed away looking out across the vast Pacific Ocean, an ocean which embraced him during countless dives and an ocean that inspired him to contribute immeasurably to 50 years of dedicated service to diving medicine, safety and academia.
A memorial service for Dr Carl Edmonds will be held at HMAS Penguin at 1230 on 14 December 2019. Registration will be required to attend in order to allow access to the Navy base. Details are to be confirmed.
